Do you have a name for your bike? Some endearing or tough moniker to refer to this device that you love to use?
I think it’s fairly common for people to name their cars. My dad used to pat the dashboard when climbing particularly long hills, encouraging the car to keep going. The machinery was fine – I think he felt empathetic to the car’s efforts. I could imagine that our car felt tired, so I patted the dashboard too.
When I was 13, I got my first 10-speed bike. I loved this bike. It was cranberry pink and more agile than the clunky kid bike from which I had graduated.

I’m not going to remember all of your names. Apologies in advance!
I named her Biki (“bee-key”). Admittedly not the most original of names, but I said it with such affection. I remember one day my friends taunting me – they had heard me talk to my bike. And I had called her by name. I was embarrassed. Clearly, I was the only one who had that type of relationship with their chariot of tire.
A girlfriend recently adorned her new wheels with “Cyndi” – a tribute to Cyndi Lauper. I actually don’t have a name for my current bike.

I have 4 bikes in 2 cities with 5th bike that used to be mine in Toronto. :D They are in cities where I’ve lived/continue to visit.
Only 1 bike is named. My Dahon folding bike. Named because to distinguish it from my partner’s Dahon bike whenever we talk about our folding bikes. Bike’s name is Baby Day. It is compact, light and I love it.
4 bikes in 2 cities! Hybrid and mountain in each?
Baby Day is a sweet name :) What’s your partner’s bike’s name?
